The seed imagery for videos from series Black Sun is dominated by the desert. It represents a particularly liminal space as it is one of either nothingness or inherent possibility. The photograms functioned in the space as alternative moments that may have been in the video, but instead held a space as objects. I use the photogram technique because it reflects photography’s history, future, and materiality. A productive uncertainty occurs in the darkroom as I try random filter combinations and use expired paper. It is an updated version of a science fair project that he helped me make in grade school. The original has since been lost, but I had been preoccupied with the youthful curiosity and wonderment that it represented and focused on recreating these.
